Care and Maintenance
Our products are made with natural materials. Therefore, natural variations occur from product to product and are part of the character of each piece. Due to environmental factors such as humidity and temperature, natural wood and veneer may undergo changes like expansion, contraction, and warping. Cracks, small variations in tone, knots, and minor imperfections can occur. We embrace these imperfections as part of the unique identity of each product.
If a product arrives with a natural crack in the wood or develops any over time, this is considered normal. Especially in stained pieces, the natural color of the wood may become visible. We embrace these characteristics as part of the inherent nature and beauty of solid wood. In such cases, we recommend maintaining the piece by gently reapplying the stain to the affected area. Matching stains and oils can be provided upon request to support ongoing maintenance and care.
The appearance of cracking in natural wood furniture may be surprising at first, but rest assured—it’s a normal part of timber’s lifecycle. This occurs not only in furniture but also in buildings. Unless the functionality of your furniture is affected, these natural cracks pose no issue. In fact, they can help reinforce structural integrity by relieving the tension and pressure caused by the wood’s natural expansion and contraction. You may notice these changes throughout the seasons, almost as if your furniture is a living, breathing being.
If you’re looking for ways to slow this process, we recommend maintaining indoor humidity at around 50% using a humidifier or dehumidifier. You can also avoid rooms that are excessively hot, dry, damp, or exposed to direct sunlight throughout the day. These conditions help reduce the likelihood of natural wood cracking.
Dust the furniture regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth or a feather duster to prevent the buildup of dust and dirt. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or excessive water, as they can damage the wood. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth or sponge with mild soapy water. Wipe the furniture dry immediately after cleaning to prevent water spots and warping. Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight or near heat sources like radiators, as excessive heat can cause the wood to dry out and fade. To polish, use a high-quality wood furniture polish or wax specifically designed for oak. We offer maintenance products such as soap, oil, and stains in case of damage to the wood.
